Scholarship Requirements

Requirements

The applicant must be a child or grandchild of a current or former OS career service employee or current member of The SIGNA Society.

Students must be attending or planning to attend a four-year college, community college, vocational school or other post-high school institution. The candidate is free to apply for other scholarship assistance he/she desires, and these awards will be made irrespective of any other applications or awards, including the Education Assistance Fund. Former applicants may reapply.

Given the number and quality of applications the Foundation receives, the Board has decided to limit the number of scholarships awarded to a single applicant to two awards. Previous awardees are encouraged to apply, but if a student has won two previous scholarships from the SIGNA Foundation, they are no longer eligible. Awards are no longer granted for graduate studies.

The applicant must apply by submitting the following package — all of the items must be included:

  1. Complete SIGNA Scholarship Foundation application form.
  2. Official transcript of the most recent high school or college grades.
  3. Official college entrance examination board results (SAT and/or ACT);
  4. A short essay (300 words) about who you are, what you have done to help yourself by either part-time work or community involvement, why you feel qualified to receive an award, and/or your plans for the future.
  5. Two recommendations from teachers, guidance counselors or mature people within your community (excluding relatives) who have known you well during the past two years.
